I, Paoul Gagnon, (Paül in French) have been a piano technician for the past 20 years and servicing the Comox Valley since 2007.
My initial exposure to learning this skill came as a young boy while observing our local technician tune my mother's grand piano at home. I began my apprenticeship as a teen with the principal piano tuner for CBC Studios (Radio Canada) in Quebec City.
Following much reading & practice over a 20 years period, I eventually established "Paoul's Piano Services" in 2007 and have been successfully operating this business in the Comox Valley since then, repairing acoustic pianos from many different manufacturers.
I approach this task with the combined discipline of a scientist & experience of a seasoned Jazz pianist with a musical ear. As a result, when tuning, regulating, or voicing a piano I draw from a wealth of background knowledge to produce the best possible result for your instrument.
One of the things that bring me the most satisfaction is to revive an old piano back to life!...
Despite most of people think whether it is probably impossible to fix or nearly too much work involved, I always find a way to make it sounded like a piano again in 95% of the time and this, according to your budget. The other 5% is when there is no possible ways to repair (ex.: you dropped the piano from a second stories...) LOL...
When I tune a piano I may be consider like a perfectionist and never leave one without a full satisfaction.
When I work on major repair I don't look at the clock by the minute like other house call service technicians.
